Keel strips made of CR film to protect the underside of Gumotex or Grabner boats.
The keel strips can be glued on using Helaplast adhesive with hardener. Degrease both surfaces with acetone before gluing. Then apply a thin layer of Helaplast adhesive to both surfaces and leave to dry for 30 minutes. Once the adhesive has dried, apply another layer. This must dry for another 30 minutes. Now the keel strips can be aligned on the boat without them sticking immediately. Once the keel strips are correctly positioned, heat them from above with a hairdryer. This makes the glue liquid again and the two layers bond. Now press the keel strips onto the boat and press down firmly. Then leave to dry for at least 24 hours. It is often unavoidable that some edges of the keel strip will lift slightly after gluing. However, this is not usually a problem as the keel strip still protects the boat from damage. The process of applying keel strips is demonstrated in this video. Ideally, have a second person assist you during the gluing process.
