Overview & On-Water Performance
The new Gumotex Swing 1 (Model 2025) is an especially compact single kayak designed specifically for small rivers and light whitewater up to Class II. It combines excellent manoeuvrability with a very forgiving, stable feel on the water, allowing beginners to build confidence quickly.
Despite its short length, the Swing 1 tracks cleanly and predictably, responds precisely to weight shifts, and offers plenty of stability. This makes it ideal for tight bends, faster sections, and varied small-river environments. Experienced paddlers appreciate the direct feedback and outstanding agility that the Swing 1 delivers.
Use Cases & Handling
The Swing 1 truly comes into its own on narrow, small rivers. Thanks to its closed construction, the cockpit remains pleasantly dry even in splashy conditions, making the kayak well suited for whitewater up to Class I–II.
On calm water, the Swing 1 is also comfortable to paddle, although it is naturally slower than longer touring kayaks. In return, it remains easy to handle, secure, and reliable. Anyone looking for a lightweight, responsive kayak for small rivers and light whitewater will find the Swing 1 to be an excellent choice.
Setup, Comfort & Features
Setting up the Swing 1 is straightforward and takes only a few minutes. Before inflation, the two cross braces are inserted and the backrest is secured. The three air chambers are then inflated to 0.2 bar using the Push-Push valves.
Afterwards, the coaming is inserted to stabilise the cockpit. Entry and exit are easy thanks to the compact cockpit opening, while the new footrest design with side strap adjustment offers noticeably improved adjustability. Overall, the Swing 1 provides more space and comfort than the Rush 1 and is therefore also well suited for taller paddlers.
Material & Build Quality
Like all Gumotex kayaks, the new Swing 1 is made from NITRILON®, a robust material known for its high abrasion resistance and long service life. The 2025 version features several meaningful upgrades, including waterproof deck zippers, reinforced grab lines at the bow and stern, rigid plastic carry handles, and an optimised keel tube that improves tracking.
The high-quality construction makes the kayak reliable, low-maintenance, and ideally suited for demanding river environments.
Model Update & Conclusion
The Swing 1 received a comprehensive update for the 2025 season, offering noticeable improvements in functionality, comfort, and safety over the previous model. The new zippers, revised footrest system, additional grab lines, and optimised hull design make the kayak significantly more practical in everyday use.
Anyone looking for an agile, stable, and easy-to-transport single kayak for small rivers and whitewater up to Class II will find the Gumotex Swing 1 to be a well-balanced and dependable companion – suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
