Overview & On-Water Performance
The new Gumotex Swing 2 (Model 2025) is a compact, closed kayak for one or two paddlers, specifically designed for small rivers and light whitewater up to Class II. It stands out with a very forgiving hull, high secondary stability, and predictable handling – making it an excellent choice for beginners and anyone looking for an uncomplicated touring and small-river kayak.
Thanks to its compact length, the Swing 2 reacts quickly to steering inputs and can be manoeuvred precisely even on narrow, winding rivers. At the same time, it tracks surprisingly straight and remains calm and composed when paddled on wider rivers or lakes.
Use Cases & Handling
The Swing 2 shows its strengths especially on small to medium-sized rivers. Up to Whitewater Class II, it delivers a safe, well-controlled paddling experience. On lakes and broader river sections, it offers a pleasantly stable straight-line performance for a kayak of this length.
A major advantage is the ability to paddle the Swing 2 both solo and tandem. When paddled solo from the rear seating position, it remains well balanced and easy to control – ideal for flexible trip planning or paddlers who often go out alone.
Setup, Comfort & Features
Setup is quick and straightforward, as with the new Swing generation. First, the cross braces are inserted and the seat backrests are secured. The three air chambers are then inflated to 0.2 bar using the Push-Push valves.
After inflation, the coamings are inserted, giving both cockpits their stable shape. Entry and exit are easy thanks to the compact yet accessible cockpit openings.
The standard seats offer solid basic ergonomics, but comfort can be noticeably improved with the optional Seashine seat – especially on longer river tours.
Material & Build Quality
Like all Gumotex models, the Swing 2 is made from NITRILON®, a robust and durable material known for its high abrasion resistance and good UV stability.
The 2025 version introduces several meaningful upgrades, including waterproof deck zippers, reinforced grab lines at the bow and stern, a side-mounted footrest system, sturdy rigid plastic carry handles, and an optimised cockpit area. These improvements increase comfort, safety, and long-term durability in everyday use.
Model Update & Conclusion
The Gumotex Swing 2 received a comprehensive update for the 2025 season, offering improved comfort, better equipment, and a modernised construction. Its combination of compact size, high stability, and closed design makes it an ideal companion for river tours, small-river adventures, and whitewater up to Class II.
Anyone looking for a versatile, easy-to-control tandem kayak that also performs very well when paddled solo will find the Gumotex Swing 2 to be an excellent choice.
